Due to <a href="http://mables.com/blog/indie/wardrobe-refashion-challenge.php">our taking the Wardrobe Refashion Pledge</a>, a homemade bikini was actually in the works instead of my usual trip to Target&#8217;s swimwear section. But like most great wardrobe choices, that blue suit was love at first sight. I haven&#8217;t worn a one-piece in years and frankly I didn&#8217;t think that a genuine vintage bathing suit would be very comfortable since a lot of them were wool. But I put those concerns aside and decided to be adventurous. I&#8217;m so glad I did because not only is this skirted one-piece cuter than any of the bikinis I have been watching, but it&#8217;s made of cotton and oh-so comfy. Even better, it was <span class="bigred">&#8220;new old stock&#8221; (commonly noted as &#8220;NOS&#8221; on eBay)</span> so although my Lee Swimplay suit is probably from the 1950&#8217;s, I&#8217;m still the first one to wear it!</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re still searching for the perfect swimsuit (or one of many) and want <span class="bigred">something really unique for summer</span> then you <em>must</em> see the selection of vintage bathing suits on <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bvintagebathing&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fclothing.search.ebay.com%2Fbathing-swim-swimsuit-bikini-panties-panty_Womens-Vintage-Clothing_W0QQcatrefZC6QQdfspZ32QQfposZ92104QQfromZR2QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ32QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ14071QQsadisZ200QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsatitleZQ28bathingQ2cswimQ2cswimsuitQ2cbikiniQ29Q2dQ28pantiesQ2cpantyQ29QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs" target="_new">eBay</a> and <a href="http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_type=tag_title_vintage&#038;search_query=bathing" target="_new">Etsy</a>. Unlike new suits, each vintage bathing suit is one of a kind or extremely limited edition, and the range of styles is much more creative than modern swimwear. Buying vintage online also gives us the opportunity to support all the great indie business owners out there.</p>
<div align="center"><img src='http://mables.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/vintage-swimsuits.jpg' alt='Vintage Swimsuits from eBay and Etsy' /><br />
Left to Right: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5484159">some girls vintage</a>, <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bvintagebathing&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%2F_W0QQsassZlovespyvintage">Love Spy Vintage</a>, and <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bvintagebathing&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fstores.ebay.com%2FMels-Shoppe-Vintage">Mel&#8217;s Shoppe Vintage</a></div>
<p>Here are a few of the hottest vintage swimsuits being bid on right now. It surprised me that they were all one-pieces, but those are indeed the best sellers, almost without exception. Despite the popularity of the modern bikini &#8211; and I swear it&#8217;s not hyperbole to say that nearly everyone in southern California wears one &#8211; it seems that <span class="bigred">a new retro-loving generation is discovering the one-piece</span>. Some truly fantastic maillot swimsuits did come from seasons past; highly styled designer suits of the 40&#8217;s and 50&#8217;s, the profusely psychedelic prints of the 60s, deep V necklines and bias cuts of the 70s, and uber high cut legs and fluorescent colors of the 80s. Whether you&#8217;re a vintage fashionista or a lover of all things retro and ironic, there&#8217;s a style for you.</p>
<p>Below are some of the most popular vintage bathing suit auctions going on right now, but there is always <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bvintagebathing&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fclothing.search.ebay.com%2Fbathing-swim-swimsuit-bikini-panties-panty_Womens-Vintage-Clothing_W0QQcatrefZC6QQdfspZ32QQfposZ92104QQfromZR2QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ32QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ14071QQsadisZ200QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsatitleZQ28bathingQ2cswimQ2cswimsuitQ2cbikiniQ29Q2dQ28pantiesQ2cpantyQ29QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs" target="_new">more to be found on eBay</a>.<br />

Honestly, they can be pretty ridiculous sometimes. But when they&#8217;re discounted up to 70% off, <strong>it&#8217;s a really smart time to pick up a few organic wardrobe cornerstones</strong>. Here are a few of my favorite picks; </p>

In an effort to inspire ourselves and create an entirely <a href="http://mables.com/blog/index.php?tag=eco-fashion">eco-fashion</a> friendly wardrobe, <span class="bigred">we&#8217;ve decided to take the Wardrobe Refashion Pledge</span>:</p>
<blockquote><p>We, <u>Mables.com</u>, pledge that we shall abstain from the purchase of &#8220;new&#8221; manufactured items of clothing, for the period of <u>4 months</u>. We pledge that we shall refashion, renovate, recycle preloved items for ourselves with our own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract. We pledge that we will share the love and post a photo of our refashioned, renovated, recycled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftyness brings! Signed <u>Lauren &#038; Sean</u></p></blockquote>
<p>So from July 1st &#8211; October 1st we&#8217;ll be sharing our adventures with creating, living in, and loving our &#8220;preloved&#8221; wardrobes. Honestly, being huge fans of vintage and reconstructed clothing, this won&#8217;t be a big stretch from what we&#8217;re already doing. We like the idea of making a commitment to it though, and sharing our journey with others. We look forward to trying out new <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=8.0" target="_new" title="genius at work on the Craftster reconstructed clothes forum">refashioning techniques</a>, scouring <a href="http://mables.com/vintage-clothes.php">vintage clothing stores on eBay</a> and better connecting with the sources of our clothes.</p>
<p><strong>Are you interested in taking the Wardrobe Refashion pledge with us?</strong> You can sign up for 2, 4, or 6 month period and rest assured you will be in great company. This is the 3rd year and participation gets bigger each time. There are currently over 400 members in the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/wardroberefashion/" target="_new">Flickr pool</a>! Whether or not you&#8217;ll be joining us in this DIY fashion adventure, <span class="bigred">what do you think of the idea? Could you avoid buying new clothes for a few months?</span> </p>

While <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bdragonsunglasses&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fclothing.listings.ebay.com%2FSunglasses_Oakley_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC4QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfromZR2QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ2QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ79725QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsocmdZListingItemList" target="_new">Oakleys</a> (based out of Orange County) are always a favorite, you can&#8217;t leave the house without seeing a score of men wearing Dragon sunglasses. <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&#038;campid=5335898297&#038;toolid=10001&#038;customid=Bdragonsunglasses&#038;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fclothing.listings.ebay.com%2FSunglasses_Dragon_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQcatrefZC4QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfromZR2QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ2QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ79752QQsaobfmtsZinsifQQsocmdZListingItemList" target="_new"><img src='http://mables.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/dragon-sunglasses.jpg' alt='dragon-sunglasses.jpg' align="right"/></a>Truck stickers with the Dragon logo are also really popular. As it turns out, Dragon is a San Diego County (Carlsbad) based company, which explains the hometown love that the brand enjoys here. Their styles are largely designed for the sports enthusiast, so you&#8217;ll find incredibly sturdy frames that <strong>block 100% of all harmful UV and Blue Light</strong>. Wrap-around sunglasses frames are also one of their hallmarks, as are the occasional fashion forward style. There is a new 2007 model called &#8220;GG&#8221;, which is straight up 1980&#8217;s nerd style: thick two-toned coffee and bronze frames, perfect for rocking the blazer, t-shirt, and Vans look. To cater to a wider audience, they also offer more subdued, metal frame sunglasses styles. (You can see GG shown at top left, in black.)</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re looking for a pair of men&#8217;s Dragon sunglasses, eBay has an awesome selection. Even better, I&#8217;ve been watching auctions and you can definitely get a new pair for <strong>well below retail</strong>. <span class="bigred">Oh, the magic of eBay.</span></p>
<div class="nobdr"><script language="JavaScript" src="http://lapi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?EKServer&#038;ai=mrq%7Fv%60w%7Cgp%7C%7E&#038;bdrcolor=FFFFFF&#038;catid=79720&#038;cid=0&#038;eksize=1&#038;encode=UTF-8&#038;endcolor=FF0000&#038;endtime=y&#038;fbgcolor=FFFFFF&#038;fntcolor=000000&#038;fs=1&#038;hdrcolor=FFFFFF&#038;hdrimage=1&#038;hdrsrch=n&#038;img=y&#038;lnkcolor=FF6600&#038;logo=3&#038;num=8&#038;numbid=n&#038;paypal=n&#038;popup=y&#038;prvd=9&#038;query=dragon&#038;r0=3&#038;sacategoryin=79720&#038;shipcost=n&#038;sid=Bdragonsunglasses&#038;siteid=0&#038;sort=MetaLowestPriceSort&#038;sortby=price&#038;sortdir=asc&#038;srchdesc=n&#038;tbgcolor=FFFFFF&#038;title=Men%27s+Dragon+Sunglasses&#038;tlecolor=CC0000&#038;tlefs=1&#038;tlfcolor=000000&#038;toolid=10004&#038;track=5335898297&#038;width=455"></script></div>

They always seem to show up during 3 day weekends&#8230; like this <a href="http://clickserve.cc-dt.com/link/tplclick?lid=41000000015444089&#038;pubid=21000000000099519" target="_new"><strong>Urban Outfitters Memorial Day Sale</strong></a>! <span class="bigpink">Through June 4th</span>, UO has just about every other product on their site marked down to awesomely low prices- clothes, shoes, accessories, swimwear, decor items, gifts- you name it, it&#8217;s on sale (and a lot of it for at least 40% off). Plus, you know the deal with Urban Outfitters&#8217; website versus their retail stores: <span class="bigpink">lots of exclusive items</span>. It&#8217;s like they&#8217;re encouraging us to stay home and shop in our skivvies. Well, UO, if you insist&#8230;</p>

I remember the year my little brother opened up his new remote control truck on Christmas morning, and he screaming with delight. Regardless of my age, I still jump at the chance to mess around with the neighbors little remote control helicopters, or any other RC toys. In my opinion, they&#8217;re are one of the coolest things you can play with. They are great for all ages (even adults), develop dexterity in children, promote good hand-eye coordination, the batteries are rechargeable, and they are very sturdy overall.</p>
<p>A really cool spin on the traditional RC cars, trucks, and airplanes is the <a href="http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1569688-10370662?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hammacher.com%2Fpublish%2F72824.asp%3Fsource%3DCJ&#038;cm_ven=CJ&#038;cm_cat=1470622&#038;cm_pla=1569688&#038;cm_ite=Remote+Controlled+Robotic+Shark&#038;cjsku=72824" target="_blank">Swimming Remote Control Robotic Shark</a>. <strong>Control your very own robot shark as he swims up to 9 feet deep</strong> in your pool, the ocean, bathtub, or anywhere else you decide to take him along. Your shark will maneuver gracefully left, right, even backwards with the skill and precision of a real shark! The hand held remote control unit is water proof too, so you can swim right along. Since it comes from Hammacher, it also has a lifetime guarantee, ensuring Jaws will be around for many summers to come.</p>
