I’ll admit it: we at Mable’s are totally biased when it comes to Star Wars. We love the original and prequel trilogies, and wish there were more days in the year where dressing in your favorite Star Wars costume was encouraged. Thank goodness for Halloween!
Even if you have only a passing familiarity with the Star Wars movies, you know there are not just many characters but many costume changes as well. The Imperials don’t change much, but the Rebels and other good guys have lots of different costumes and hair styles, as well as small accessory differences through the movies. Queen Amidala changes outfits every 5 seconds or so and has a total of 34 costumes during Episodes I-III! If you’re interested in authenticity there several Supreme costumes that are incredibly detailed and are priced accordingly. They’re absolutely fantastic quality and will win any costume contest! We also recommend homemade costumes if you have the time and patience, because they are usually the most impressive. See our list of recommended custom costume makers at the top right of this page.
Below is a list of the most popular Star Wars costumes, along with our tips and suggested online resources for creating a great costume;
Jedi Costumes with Robes
Clone Wars Costumes
Darth Vader Costumes
Anakin Costumes
In Episode III Anakin Skywalker is no longer a padawan, but a full Jedi. He ditched his braid and beige outfit for longer hair and a black and dark brown jedi outfit. Just add the gauntlet (to cover your robotic hand), blue lightsaber and a scar over your right eye. Very impressive custom Anakin Skywalker costumes are available from the sellers from our recommended list of custom costume creators.
Obi Wan Costumes
Clone Trooper Costumes
Princess Leia Costumes
You can either purchase a ready-made Leia costume or (with just minimal sewing skills) make your own with the new Leia sewing pattern. If you can knit, you can make your own Leia hat complete with buns! This year bring another option for Leia hair that is amazingly simple (if a little odd looking): the Leia headband. Pair with that scruffy looking nerf herder, Han Solo, for an amazing couple costume.
