Sometimes I daydream about time travel and be a teenager in the 60’s. An entire decade known for peace, love, feminism, youth uprising and lots of long hair? Count me in.

Vintage Clothes:
Whimsical. Eco Friendly. One of a Kind.
Welcome to the tribe, beautiful dreamer! At Mable’s, we celebrate vintage clothing, and the wild and free women who wear it!
Now… It’s time to let your inner child free. She knows what makes you truly come alive, and what outfits bring out the twinkle in your eyes.
Try this experiment: As you look through our vintage clothing boutiques, ask Little You to be your wardrobe stylist today.
See what brilliant and surprising ideas she has. Forget what’s “on trend” this season and let your heart make your fashion choices for a while…
OK it’s 2001. Destiny’s Child was at the top of their game, the first Harry Potter movie was playing in theaters, and I got a Nintendo GameCube for Christmas. People were all feeling celebratory in the new millennium. It’s the year 2001! A year we fantasized might contain flying cars and wristwatch televisions. “The future is now!” and all that jazz. The trends of the times reflect our general consciousness, and the early 2000’s especially, were about experimentation and bending fashion rules for the sake of “futuristic” and modern looks. We just survived the Y2K scare, man! You think we’re too timid to wear jeans under skirts or ties as belts? No ma’am. Not in this millennium.

I can’t tell you how glad I am that the “Friends’ Trend” of 90’s fashion has made a comeback. As an early 90’s baby myself, I still hold a special place in my heart for those black slip on Steve Madden platform slides (come on, you had them too) elastic tattoo chokers, cropped ringer tees and big ole JNCOS.

It’s not just vintage clothes that have soul. The fine folks who sell it do, too. I had a chat with Michelle Seibold, the owner of Portland, Indiana based Vulture Culture Vintage, and discovered that her shop was actually born from another passion. “Vulture Culture Vintage began to simply support our small foster and rehabilitation program for homeless shelter animals. Since our ‘official’ naming in 2007, we’ve taken in over 30 dogs and cats, vetted, fostered and rehomed them. We continue to volunteer, as much as possible, to local animal welfare groups and donate a portion of all fur/fur trimmed vintage garments to small, needy wildlife rehabilitation groups. Our slogan for this program is ‘respect the past, present and future‘.”

Maybe Trashy Vintage is sitting on a secret super power. After all, the City of Santa Clarita is one of the largest in LA County, but somehow the shop’s owner, Crystal, manages to find only the sweetest stock in the entire LA area. I sat down with Crystal and – although she didn’t admit to any super-human skills – you can tell she has an extraordinary love of all things vintage.

Who else wants a totally unique swimsuit this year? I don’t know about you, but I like my fashion as bold and original as I am. My secret? Vintage wear, baby. But don’t take my word for it. You must see the selection of vintage bathing suits on eBay and Etsy!

Everything popular will come back around in another 20 years. Case in point: 80s clothes! Thankfully not every trend during that decade is making a comeback. For instance, the New Romantics style of the early 80s with it’s luxurious pirate fashions has yet to really catch on again. 😉
